“Helping those who suffer from joint disease walk again”

Operation Walk was founded in Los Angeles, California in 1995 by world-renown orthopedic surgeon Lawrence D. Dorr. Since it’s founding, Operation Walk has expanded to nine teams and has traveled to many countries around the world. Over the next 11 years, volunteer teams from Operation Walk conducted trips to Cuba, China, Nepal, Philippines, Nicaragua, Peru, Guatemala, El Salvador and Panama. A few of the many surgeons that have participated in these trips over the years have gone on to start their own volunteer surgical teams and help spread the work of Operation Walk.Dr. Gerard Engh of Anderson Orthopedic Clinic and Inova Health System is one such surgeon.
Dr. Engh founded Operation Walk Virginia chapter in 2006 and has led teams on surgical missions to Nicaragua with an upcoming trip planned for the fall of 2008. Additionally, the Operation Walk Virginia team is going to expand its volunteer efforts to other countries in the future. Dr. Engh’s unique vision is to bring doctors from the host country to the United States to learn by observing the surgical techniques involved in knee and hip replacement. The doctors will then be able to take these skills back to their own country perpetuating the help for years to come.
Each trip helps us take another step in achieving our goal of visiting more countries to help more people in need. For each trip, Operation Walk Virginia must raise its own funds, and for this we need your help. Make a difference to someone less fortunate, donate today. If you are a medical professional, volunteer to help out on an upcoming mission. Become a valued team member and sponsor one of our missions. Like YOU!
